Code of Conduct

General

  • At DVHacks we strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our hackers, volunteers, team members, and everyone else involved in our event.

  • Harassment includes, and isn't restricted to, verbal or written derogatory remarks relating to sex, age, gender, pronouns, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, faith, social position, economic status, sexual images, intentional intimidation.

  • Any forms of online harassment, will not be tolerated at our event.

  • DVHacks has a zero tolerance policy on harassment, and any participants asked to stop harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

  • Sponsors, judges, mentors, volunteers, organizers, and anyone else at the event are also subject to our anti-harassment policy.

  • If a participant engages in harassing behavior, DVHacks reserves the right to disqualify any offender from the event

  • If a hacker, volunteer, team member, or anyone else in DVHacks engages in harassing behavior, the hackathon organisers may take any action they deem appropriate. This includes warning the offender, expulsion from the hackathon, or reporting their behaviour to local law enforcement.

Hacking Rules:

  • Teams are limited to 4 members

  • Every team member, and hacker must be part of our listed grades of eligibility

    • Grades of eligibility include 6-12 and college freshman (undergraduate)

  • All hackers should be able to provide a Student ID at any point during the hackathon or the prize distribution process to verify their identity.
  • All projects submitted to DVHacks must be original, created for the purpose of submitting it to this event, and any source code must be credited as the owner of the source code specifies.

  • All projects submitted to DVHacks must be created solely within the designated hours of hacking.

  • Any hackers found to be violating these rules are subject to disqualification, and revocation of any prizes.

Zoom/Discord

Communicating:

  • Be respectful to all hackers, mentors, and volunteers when messaging on the discord and participating in hackathons. Not hateful language or comments will be tolerated.

  • Don’t interrupt the speaker; please wait for a natural break in conversation to speak.

  • All participants are expected to remain on mute, unless called upon or given specific permission to unmute and speak during the opening and closing ceremonies, any workshops, any games, any panels, or any other online activities.

  • Communication within the livestream or zoom meeting must be pertinent to the on-going discussion.

  • Our policies on harassment apply to any written, visual, or verbal communication done over Zoom and Discord.

Advertising:

  • No advertising; this includes but is not limited to posting referral links, and cross-promoting hackathons. This rule also applies to private messaging.

Sharing Resources:

  • DVHacks encourages everyone to share resources, and collaborate. Just be mindful of the content that you are sharing, and make sure that it abides by the code of conduct.

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated and any participants found to be plagiarizing will be disqualified from DVHacks.

Impersonation: 

  • Impersonation of any hackers, team members, mentors, volunteers, will not be permitted and will result in a direct disqualification.

Other:

  • Your nickname on discord should be your actual name or the preferred name you submitted to the registration data.

  • Your nickname and profile photo should both be appropriate, and not violate any aforementioned rules.

 

Prizing rules:

  • Hackers must be present when picking up their prizes barring any special circumstances

  • Any winners living within a 20 mile radius of 10550 Albion Rd, San Ramon, CA 94582 must pick up their prizes, barring special circumstances. You can view your eligibility using the map below.

  • DVHacks will not be held liable for any package theft that occurs after the delivery of your package.

  • International winners will be required to pay for shipping, or may opt to receive an electronic fund amount equivalent to their winnings in place of a physical prize.

  • DVHacks reserves the rights to remove prizing categories due to low quality submissions, or a low amount of submissions.

  • DVHacks reserves the rights to substitute prizes due to changes in availability.

 

Reporting an Incident

  • If you feel uncomfortable or think there may be a potential violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately, as specified below. All reporters have the right to remain anonymous.

DVHacks reserves the right to remove, and/or disqualify from our event, any participants found to be behaving in a manner that violates our code of conduct, or is otherwise disruptive or harmful.

Other Permissions

I hereby grant to Hack Club and Hack Club’s affiliates, and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents, successors, licensees and assigns, the worldwide, perpetual and irrevocable right to: (a) photograph or videotape me or record my voice, and to use said photography, video, sound recording or other likeness (the “Images”) in the production, distribution, promotion and advertisement of the Event or Hack Club; and (b) to use such Images in connection with the production, distribution, promotion, advertisement and exploitation of the Event or Hack Club and the charitable programs and activities associated therewith. I hereby agree and consent that Hack Club shall have the right to edit the Images as Hack Club sees fit and in its sole and unfettered discretion and that Hack Club shall have all right, title and interest in any and all results from the use of the Images. The rights herein granted to Hack Club shall include, but are not limited to, the right to use the Images to such extent and in such manner, in and in connection with said Event, as Hack Club in its sole and complete discretion may determine, and the right to distribute, exhibit and otherwise exploit the Images, including but not limited to said photography, audiovisual or sound recordings, by any method and in any manner, including theatrically, non-theatrically, and by free television, public television, cable television, videocassette, DVD, internet or otherwise.
